Keep Your Pumpkin Fresh

The single best way to keep a carved pumpkin from decomposing is to keep it moist. When pumpkins shrivel up, it’s because they’ve lost moisture. The following suggestions will help you extend the life of your carved pumpkin.

  • Keep pumpkins in a dry, shaded area.
  • Coat all carved areas with petroleum jelly.
  • Use a pumpkin dip, available at most grocery stores.
  • Look for a spray-on preserver.
  • Store in your fridge at night if you have the room.

In spite of these tips, if you do notice your pumpkin starting to dry up, soak it in water overnight. This will sometimes restore them back to their original condition.
